The Damascus steel is 21 layers of 15n20 and 1084, pattern welded, twisted and forged to shape. The shibuichi guard is cast in Riversdale Beach sand. Self-collected Wairarapa turritella shell fossil, local antler, leather spacers and stabilised kahikatea from a lightning struck tree in Carterton make up the remainder of the handle.
A hidden tang construction is firmly held with a cast shibuichi pin.
