9 layers of 1084 and 15n20 steel were forge welded then folded, first in half and then again into 3 sections, creating a 54-layer bar of alternating dark and bright etching steels twisted and forged into the patterned blade
The handle features a local beach sand cast koru guard and pommel in high silver shiro-shibuichi and grossular garnet from a Nelson river cobble. The body of the handle is antler and the spacers are silver and g10.
The construction is with a through tang running the length of the handle and peened at the end to give a solid mechanical hold.
Our vision for this Art Knife was influenced by the movement and energy of New Zealand's rivers. Sweeping flowing lines and cold curling eddies. A place of transition where elements playfully or violently come together.
This piece comes with a custom handcrafted ambidextrous leather sheath embossed with a New Zealand garden snail, echoing the koru spirals in the knife and is easily worn without the need to remove your belt.
