The stone spacer in this Art Knife is Pounamu from Hokitika and the bronze guard was cast in beach sand. Local antler and stabilized Totara fencepost with leather spacers make up the remainder of the handle. Hidden tang construction is firmly held with a brass pin.
The damascus steel is 48 layers of 15n20 and 1084, folded, pattern welded and forged into a heavy spined, long seax with a deep heel and long handle for large scale carving at great feasts.
The driftwood base is New Zealand native timber washed up on Ocean Beach, Wairarapa.
