This one-of-a-kind bushcraft knife draws inspiration from the early European settlers in colonial New Zealand who established farms and homesteads in places like Wairarapa, planting hardy trees such as sequoia to provide shelter, timber, and a sense of permanence on their new land.

Benjamin handcrafted the blade from Damascus go-mai, forged with a core of 15N20 and 1084 steels to create its distinctive fine-grained pattern and reliable edge retention, toughness, and performance.

The handle blends warm sandcast bronze with shimmering curly redwood sourced from the Wairarapa region. This stabilised redwood comes from a large giant sequoia stump felled in Masterton—likely descended from the practical late-1800s plantings that settlers put in across the area. Stabilised for moisture resistance and durability, it offers a warm, richly toned grip. It is complemented by driftwood gathered from the wild shores of Ocean Beach on the rugged Palliser Bay coastline, adding weathered coastal contrast from the exposed black-sand stretch shaped by dramatic cliffs, relentless Pacific swells, and strong currents.

This truly one-of-a-kind piece is completed with a custom belt sheath handcrafted by Marisa from vegetable-tanned leather. Dyed a deep reddish-brown, it showcases a hand-embossed Northern Star motif elegantly accented with 24k gold leaf gilding for a refined, heirloom-quality finish.

The Heritage Puukko is a provenance-driven bushcraft essential—forged from Wairarapa's enduring redwood forests and coastal driftwood, sandcast bronze, and Benjamin's anvil: rooted in regional history, built to endure, and ready to go off track.
